Social welfare policy is...
"a subset of social policy, regulates the provision of benefits to people to meet basic life needs, such as employment, income, food, housing, health care, and relationships" (Karger & Stoesz, p. 3). Social welfare policy is very important because it is how people are assisted to get the help that is need for their basic needs. "Social work practice is driven by social policies that dictate how the work is done, with whom, for how much, and toward what ends" (Karger & Stoesz, p. 5). It is important for social workers to know about the different social welfare policies to be enabled to help clients that are in need.
